Sales CRM - Field/Parameter Tracking via Links

Fields/Parameters

All our software users can track a number of fields or parameters coming from link clicks.  Below is a list of the current parameters we are tracking not only on any rental.software domain page but also on your domain as long as you are using our WordPress plugin.

  • Google Ads Identifier (adwords)
  • Facebook Ads Identifier (facebook)
  • utm_source (utm_source)
  • utm_medium (utm_medium)
  • utm_campaign (utm_campaign)

Additionally, subscribers to our CRM module have the ability to track more fields.  Below is a list of current fields we are tracking, but we can add more upon request.  The fields at this time must be fields that can be mapped to a lead.

  • Sales Rep (salesrep)
  • Referral (referral)

Benefit

While we have attempted to track some of these parameters for a long time, we have just now ensured that it is possible on both the rental.software and your WordPress domain.  This data is particularly useful in determining what is working with your marketing efforts.  By making custom reports in the software you can determine where most of your leads are coming from.

Additionally you can build your own affiliate program and track referrals for a later payout to your affiliates since you will be able to provide them with code to use when they promote you and then track their performance.

Lastly, you can give similar code to your internal sales reps to ensure they are getting credit for their efforts in bringing in leads and completing sales.

The cookie we track these in expires in 6 months.

Reports

There are many ways to report this data, but here are some of the most useful:

  1. Create a report with any useful lead columns, especially the tracked parameters above and filter by important metrics for you like status.  Also filter by create date to see what were popular marketing initiatives during that period.  Looking at specific parameters you can total the revenue to see which methods earned you the most money.
  2. Create a report for one of the tracked parameters and group by that parameter.  Add the count and total columns to see how many times each parameter caused a lead and the total revenue.

Link Structure

You can add these parameters to any link from your site to start tracking.  It takes a little knowledge about how parameters work in URLs.

The first parameter added to a URL must have a question mark before it.  Ex: http://site.com/?firstparameter=stuff

Every parameter after that must have an ampersand separating it.  Ex: http://site.com/?firstparameter=stuff&second=mores...
