SPORTS50 - Package/Promo Setup

Hi IO Support Team,
We’re about to launch an OptinMonster pop-up that says:
“Add any Sports Game for 50 % off when you rent a Bounce House, Slide, Obstacle Course, or Dunk Tank.”I’ve reviewed the Packages article but I’m not sure whether this should be built as a “Package” or a Promotion rule. Promo requirements
• Discount item – any single game from our “Sports & Carnival Games” category (QB Blitz, Basketball Shootout, etc.).
• Logic – when at least one MAIN item is in the cart, the first Sports Game added should be discounted 50 %. Additional games (if any) stay at full price.
• Channel – must work on website checkout and in backend when staff builds a quote.
• Duration – ongoing until we turn it off.
- Is it cleaner to create a Package with a filter for the sports-game category, or a Promotion/Discount rule tied to cart contents?
- How do we make sure only one sports-game line item gets the 50 % discount if the customer adds several?
- Can the customer swap which specific sports game they want (any SKU in that category) without breaking the discount?
- Any other steps to ensure availability blocks correctly and the discounted price shows clearly on the quote/contract?

I think this would be easier done using a package-type promotion. You could add a legacy promotion and list out all of the qualifying items:
Or a normal promotion, which would require creating 2 separate lead filters - one for the qualifying items/categories, and one for the discount items/categories.
