We just got the workers app, is there a way for workers to see what work is available? How do we know when someone request time off?

Here's an article on how to assign shifts on a lead for a worker. If you want them to choose shifts they'd like to work then leave name for the worker blank here. Then this would show up as an available shift on the workers site calendar for them (they must have the correct permissions for this as well
The worker can request time of from the menu on the workers app...click Availability and it will allow them to request off. Then when you go to assign shifts as shown above their name will show in red if the worker is not available for that shift

Do the employees get notified when they have to work? So say we book an event and assign that worker to the lead, do they get a notification that they have to work and what items they will be taking out?

Go to Settings-->Email Center. Here there are automated emails for workers that can go out with the lead info when they are assigned a shift. Look for Worker - Shift Reminder
