Solved

I've tried a few times to send texts to myself, through the email system, but they are not going through.

I am on verizon. Nothing has come through.

Any idea what's going on with this feature?

Same issue on our system as well. Tried a few different leads, with a few different carriers (cell #'s), and nothing is going through.

We will have to take a look, but it's likely that the text was blocked by your carrier. It's getting more difficult to deliver text messages. You may want to consider looking into IO Phone. Support for texting will be center around IO Phone in the future.

Bummer. We really don't need a whole new phone program , and have been gearing up auto text reminders. Perhaps you can separate out the text functionality, so that it works, and we don't have to integrate all phones...just working text functionality

The issue is that all texts are going through one number from IO. If you use IO Phone to text, it sends through your number that you choose when setting up IO Phone.

What does that have to do with a customer's cell provider blocking the text because it is recognized as not coming from a cell phone? In other words, what guarantee do we have that the texts will not be blocked when sent through IO phone? Are you using similar technology?

We aren't willing to put all of our eggs in one basket (phones, and system, both through IO)...nothing against you guys but it doesn't make sense for us in the event of some kind of outage. That said, we'd be willing to port a random number to you guys for text purposes only...but really don't need all the functionality that you're advertising with IO Phone.

Is there a way we can only use the IO Phone's text functionality, for a lower cost? How does this play into automatic texts...is it going to be yet another system/setting to modify? Or will it be the same email center>new email>set up an automatic email (text version)?

All we really want is the texts to go through. It's a relatively new feature, and once we became comfortable with it we started to set-up automatic texts. Now though, since there's no real way of knowing if the texts are received, we're unsure how long the texts have been blocked? We don't want to go through the same issue with IO Phone , especially if it costs more $

Trying to test this out, I activated a number through IO Phone. What else do I need to do for the text function to work? Tried "emailing" a text to my wife and nothing came through...am I missing a step?

It looks like in the code, it's sending texts still through the regular general IO phone number even with the IO Phone number active. This should be changing soon.

"...what guarantee do we have that the texts will not be blocked when sent through IO phone? Are you using similar technology?"

It's not the technology causing the issue, it's the fact that several users of the program are all sending out texts to their customers all from the same number. Having your own number would help prevent this (obviously if you start using it to send spam your number could get marked as spam legitimately so we can't guarantee that)

Please update us whenever you expect the text functionality to be working properly, so we can re-investigate. We're going to shelve the texts until further notice. Thanks!

Was this issue with the code addressed with the recent update?

The latest release allowed IO Phone users to text from their IO phone number. For non-IO Phone users we did switch the number used for texting so it should have resolved the problem. Let me know if it's still not working for you and we can investigate further.

All that said, I'm not able to discern the actual cost of activating IO Phone after reading the documentation. All I see is that there's a per-minute charge. What about texts? Monthly charge?

The cost is currently free, but it may go to $0.005/message in the future when we support automatic texting through the IO number.
