Searching for a Customer within lead

When I am in a lead and I type in the organization or customer name, it comes up with completely irrelivent search results. For example, I put in "Town Square Media" and a whole bunch of "townships" popped up. Am I missing a filter or is the search programmed to be broad? It does the same thing for the customer name too. If I type in Angela Smith but I have 28 Angela's in my customer list, it won't filter it down with the last name.
