Questions about new text feature

First, I just want you to be aware that using Chrome on my phone, as well as Firefox on this computer, I'm unable to leave comments like this one...I can type in the TITLE section, but the DESCRIPTION section is grayed out.

Very excited for the text feature and wanted to ask a few quick things before we decide how to implement:

How the heck to we send a text to a phone number? I tried to experiment a little, and it tells me the email address is invalid.

Can we send 'automatic' texts, such as reminders for a recent quote...texts that are scheduled to go out at pre-determined times essentially?

If so, we'd likely be sending people quotes that havent been fulfilled, or contracts the day before the event. Is there any way to shorten the length of the links for those items so they dont take up 20% of the allowable text message? I'm sure I could use a 3rd party service, just not sure if you guys have anything built-in that I'm missing.

I'm sure I'll have more ?'s, but can certainly try to tinker around once I figure out how to send a text to a phone number from the email pop-up....

Thanks!

We may be upgrading. Supposedly the developer said some browser updates have broken some things. We still need to look into it.

You just pick to send a text. It will send to the phone number associated with the lead. You don't need to change the email address. Just leave it.

We haven't implemented automatic texts yet. An entire opt-in/opt-out needs figured out before we do that.

Yea, it looks like it is not working on another phone here in the office, or an older version of firefox either.

Is there any plan on the variables working in the the text feature? Just did a test, and the variables show up like %quote_url%. Without this, I'm unsure how we could use the feature productively.

It also appears the text is sent from a 440-390-3733 ? Any way to change that to our office #?

I believe Joel has fixed the URL issue last night, so let us know if it's still an issue. But at the moment we send the texts through our central texting account. We're planning to open that up in the future to have your own account send it, but we wanted to push out the ability to send texts at all first.

So it'll send the text just to the number in the CELL field? If it's accidentally in home field, it won't send? Do the texts show up in the logs, or show 'bounced' (or similar) if it's a landline?

Once there's a way for customers to respond to our number and for us to actually see the response, and to integrate the automatic send feature, we'll try to check it out. Can't seem to figure out an effective or efficient way to use it until then...

If you havent come up with a solid plan yet for allowing us to send from our number, RingCentral integration would be awesome. I know a lot of your customers use RC for their business lines.

Thanks!

That's correct, it only sends tot he cell field. I don't believe we have programed it to flag as bounced, but we can look into doing this.
