Notes: Public vs Private

Under Consideration

AMONG THE INFORMATION WE CAPTURE IN PRIVATE NOTES; We like to capture credit card info and other notes that may apply to future dates, but as I mentioned in an earlier note, it would be helpful to have a date stamp (if possible) so that info relative to a customer's ongoing relationship is carried forward, but not necessarily associated with the current event. It was suggested that to accomplish this, the note should be in public notes rather than private, however, since this information could be sensitive (such as cc info) it may not be appropriate to have it there. I think the response that this is possible and is on the wish list is helpful, if it can be accomplished, but my question is; is this the best method to carry forward important but sensitive info without confusing the entry with a current event? Or is there a better way?

First of all, we never recommend putting cc data into IO. You are better doing that through your payment processing company. Now until we implement what you are asking for, I recommend putting it in the Customer Notes (Private) and putting the date next to the note for any note that you want to always travel with the customer profile. You have 2 additional notes fields that you can turn on in Settings->Optional Fields. Neither of those are displayed in other locations so they are a safe place to put notes that your customer will not see unless you intentionally designate them to be displayed in the template. I recommend using one of these for notes specific to the event that you don't want the customer to see. Again, putting a date by the note will help you.
