How do I quickly see when a piece of equipment has been rented and to which client when it's not showing as available?

Click Leads->More Filters. Select the Rental you want and hit Continue. This will filter the list of Leads to ones that had that item. You can then also filter by status and/or event date.
If you want to look at a list of rentals one day at a time you can do the following:
1. Go to Calendar
2. Click on the day number you want to look at or click Day View at the top-right
3. Next, click on Rental Availability on the top-left.
