Link quantity

Do you have documentation on how "Link Quantity" is supposed to work? I can't find much info, and I can't get it to do anything. Maybe it's not event the correct solution for me. What I'm trying to do is this:

Say I have 10 pop-up canopies. They can be rented with a black top or a carnival top. If I select 5 canopies, is there a way to make sure I also select 5 total tops? In addition, if I only select 1 canopy, I need to make sure that only 1 top can be selected.

Link quantity is supposed to do that. Whatever the main unit quantity is, the accessory should have the same (times the accessory increment). I think it may allow people to change the quantity directly on the accessory. But changing the main item should for the accessory to change as well. I think this works both on the frontend and backend. Do you have a lead example setup for me to check?

The quantities don't match up: We have 14 frames, 14 red/white striped tops and 9 black tops. Ideally, if someone selected 10 frames, they would have to select a total of 10 tops.

It doesn't match their quantity in the settings, it matches them when lead is created.

Check out lead 3073855 and let me know what I'm doing wrong.

I see they don't match. Normally they both would have quantity 6. Are you creating this from the customer quote page, or as a new lead on the back end? If I edit this lead, and change the quantity of the Carnival Booth 10', I get the expected result of both Accessories quantities changing to match, so I suspect some funky behavior on the quote form...

Ok, I see it working that way... after I've selected the accessories, then if I go back and change the quantity on the main item, it will change the accessories to match. However, if I initially select quantity 1 on the main item, I can still select any number I want on the accessories and save it. So it only works if I go back and change the quantity on the main item. Now I see how Link Quantity works.

My bigger problem is that I need the accessories (the tops) to add together to match the number of Carnival Booth 10' I have selected. For example: I want to choose 8 of the main item and 4 each of the tops, which gets me 8 tops to go with 8 canopy frames. If IO can't do that, it's fine, I get that it's complicated. We'll just have to keep an eye out to make sure we don't mess it up.

BTW, we're only doing this on the back end; it's not available on our quote form.

I see the problem you have, but we don't have a current solution for it. We intend on getting creative with "packages" in the future so there might be something in a future update with this.
