So I implemented the checkout feature using
When they click on the button it is picking up the next date. When I go in an change the date to a different date and I know the item is not free to be booked it still lets you book it.
IE I click that link today it chooses tomorrow's date. I actually have this item in maint mode because it is not yet in. However the customer can get a quote on it for tomorrow date. Which I am guessing will also allow them to book it. So I think it needs to check the database before allowing it to go in selected rentals section.

It won't allow them to book it. Most of our customers actually don't show the availibilty to the customers at all and allow anyone to get a quote for anything any time. They will never have a means of turning their quote into a contract with a conflict unless you manually move it to that status to intentionally double book something.
