Item in "hold" status even after it was paid in full

Created a contract for a booking, but client still wanted more information so moved it to "HOLD" instead of "CONTRACT" status. Client then paid in full online with credit card, but did not sign the contract and status was still in "HOLD" until I switched it to "CONFIRMED". Does the system not make the client sign the contract before they can proceed to pay online?

We allow them to pay without signing. You can change the behavior of when your status moves to confirmed. By default it will only when they pay the deposit and sign the contract. You can change it to be when they pay in full instead or some other combinations. This is in Settings->Statuses. However, modifying statuses is kind of dangerous because you can make poor choices that have unexpected effects.
