Contract Disappeared

A regular customer, William E Burley, boks an attraction every year for a family reunion. In 2018 his booking disappeared from our books and we almost missed bringing him his rental but fortunately he called and we manged to rush it to him. When trying to understand what could have happened to his booking, Mr Burley sent us an emailed receipt for his payment which was for the correct amount to book his inflatable for 7/21/2018. When we went back to his history we could not find any event logged in for any date after his 2017 booking, and we are wondering how we might have somehow deleted his contract by mistake. Is there a way to check to see how, why and when that could have occurred?
I was able to retrieve the lead#. It does look like it was accidentally deleted.
