How can I prevent clients from completing an order if they select a rental period longer than 6 hour rental.

There is no way to restrict booking based off of the amount of time the unit is rented.
You can adjust the rental pricing to have the base price set as until 6 hours and after the 6 hours make the price very expensive.
Something like this:
We would also recommend adding to the product description and in cart message that you only offer up to 6 hour rentals.

You can restrict booking by a specific day by going to Settings-->Online Quoting-->Event Availability.

Okay thank you I believe I found it I removed Allow Multi-Day which was on allowing them to book more then 1 day.

Yes that will allow them to only book for one day.
If you are wanting to restrict booking on specific days, this is found under event availability.
