how to issue refund/partial refund if I am using square

I told a customer I would do free delivery after she had already paid the balance, including delivery fee. I would like to refund the $20 fee. I'm pretty sure I can go into my square account and issue a refund from there, right? But, then how do I adjust the ticket in IO? When I delete the fee, or lower the price, IO asks me if i want to issue a gift card. Can I just edit the CC payment to match the new total?

You are correct. You will need to issue the refund from Square.

To record the refund within IO. Open the lead and click on 'Payments' on the left side menu. This will take you to the payment screen where you can enter the negative amount for the refund, click the + to add the refund and then save the lead. Please see my screenshot example below:
