How does the automation select a new lead to a sales rep

Wondering why a name as sales rep is automatically added to a new lead. I assume that past history of working with a customer will cause the old sales rep to be assigned but who gets the lead assigned when the lead is new?

Are you able to provide a lead example where a sales rep was assigned that wasn't expected to be assigned?

I think I understand that if someone opens a new lead that hasn’t been a previously assigned customer, that person becomes the rep. Since I usually am first to see a new lead, that would mean I don’t need to select myself because it would happen automatically. If another team mate is listed as rep it’s either because they were first to open

Correct. If the person opening the lead has the sales rep position assigned on their profile and no rep is assigned on the lead, the would be assigned.
