The same problem 
Make sure that you are adding the photos to your products through the "Inventory" section and selecting the product you'd like to add the photos for under "Images". Upload the photos and ensure that you are using a photo with the correct format that are applicable.

the site was working fine yesterday and prior, we have not changed anything, there has to be another issue.

It looks like the images have been fixed. It may have been a caching issue.
Our web developer have also advised that it is not recommended to have the category pages edited through elementor. This can cause an issue as well.
