What is the purpose of the Page Groups in the pages/templates?

When I create a new page group and duplicate the current ones, What happens? I noticed it creates new contract/quote pages to select in the optional fields, But I'm curious as to what the purpose is of this feature?
I stumbled upon it while trying to create an email signature. Apparently, I created a Fireworks Contract using the email signature template and couldn't create a new one. So I created a new page group. But once I noticed the Optional field I became concerned what all is happening.

That's if maybe you have a quote page for two different things...for example: A quote page for your inflatables...and a separate quote page for your video game truck. They would each have their own "group" of pages. They would each have their own quote request, quote confirm, and contract page, etc.
