Unit tracking

Looking for best practice:

How is the group tracking higher dollar items that you have multiple of that go out on rentals?

Let's use generators as an example. I rent them out per circuit. X$ per circuit, and then the guys take the correct unit with them as they load out. For the most part, they are the same unit, even if they want 4 circuits or 1, so I have 8 of the same generator. What I am looking to do is track which one is dropped at each job, so if it is stolen, etc, it is simple for me to pull up the serial number, etc, of what was there to offer up for any reports needed.

This could apply to having multiple of the same high-volume bounce houses as well.

Thoughts?

Thanks and have a great day!

For generators specifically, I have an item that is called "Generator" and it has my price. Then I have another rental set as an accessory to that item called "Choose a generator". It is set as 1 required, with all three checkboxes marked. It is hidden and removed from the packing list. Then I have a rental item for each generator I use with the "serial number" attached We call them Gen1, Gen 2, etc. These items are also in the hidden category but set as an accessory to the the "Choose a generator" item. We don't do autobookings so I don't have to worry about the customer selecting it or our team missing it. When an order comes in we watch for the generator then select one of the generators.

If you allow autobooking, you'll have to create some sort of automation that captures confirmed leads (or whatever status you require) with a generator and have it send you an email, or if you have the CRM, have it create you a task to add it.
