To make an email automatic other than a news letter you would need to create an automation for it.

so all the automatic emails i have in my email center now just came from the old UI set up? Correct?
I was thinking i would have to use automations but wanted to make sure before i wasted a ton of time doing it wrong.

You can COPY an automated email but it would need to be going out for the same reason...meaning it would have to be triggered for the same reason. So copy a payment received email ONLY if that's what it's going to be used for.
