product image gallery doesn't open popup

On my product pages, when the images in the gallery are clicked, they don't open the popup to view the images. I tried reverting to default code with the same result.

Here is what developer has advised: It is something to do with the settings of the webp express settings they have in place. I compared it to the setting use on that plugin by default and there are differences. If they want I can set these settings back to how we have it by default or they can mess with it themselves and see if they can get it working.
How would you like to proceed? Do you want developer to set these settings back to default?
