Options to Modernize Calendar

I was curious what options we have for giving our calendar widget a more modern look? I have attached a picture of the calendar widget from our previous website vendor, and I would love to know any ideas you have to make our calendar look a little more like this one. Specifically, could we update our days of the week to show in a more contrasting color (the black on gray is hard to read), and is there a way to round the corners of the dropdown menus? Thanks!

You can go into wordpress and select customize then appearance. There you can add CSS to change the appearance of the selector relevant to the calendar.
