Is there a way to stop IO from setting Category images?

I have my site set to not use category images, but every time I add an item to a category in inventory IO sets that as the image for the category automatically and this, in turn, gets set as a featured image on my site and causes me extra work to go in and delete the featured image. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

So far my fix is to set a 1x1pixel image to match the background as the featured image on each category page in wordpress, but that isn't ideal as it adds a hyperlink there as well....
Or so I thought. IO keeps overriding this too
OK. I found a way with a wordpress plugin called "WP Hide Show Featured Image" and it works great
