I have somehow merged one customer with another

I have an event for a church in March, that lead has been created. I have another church in May, that lead has been created. I added the cell number as 0000000000 as a place holder, though I have used that before. So now it has merged the two customers and everything associated with them. Obviously I will need this person's cell number, but in the meantime, I am about to go mad because I cannot remove Church 1 from Church 2's lead, and vice versa.
It goes deeper. Every time I edit one event, it brings up the contact for the OTHER church. Its two-way madness.
